There’s two side to every story and the brain itself is a duality. It has two parts, a physical part, and, that thing we call consciousness. A non-duelist would see the brain as just one thing, connective tissue, so to say, which is connected to everything.
Different mentality.
Brains develop throughout our lives, sometimes discovering, sometimes recovering.
One thing that intrigues me is a physical brain is also divided into two separate parts. The right and the left. Two parts of the same thing, controlling different aspects of the person both physical and non-physical. When a stroke happens, we can tell if it’s in the right side by loss of motor function. A left-side injury may cause speech deficits.
In the creative process, there is left-brain and right-brain thinking. There is even a book “Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain”. As if we can fetch a new thought by accessing a different part of the brain. Thus changing the way we do things.
Brain control.
There are health concerns that even the healthiest of the health disciplined humans find impossible to overcome.
Whatever makes us act, it should come from a place that is best for the individual. Group think is OK when you’re on a team. If you’re thinking for the group benefit, your not thinking for yourself. The “out there” is influencing you. Of course a malignant narcissists has no trouble putting themself first. Unfortunately this is the archetype trying to control the group.
Mind over “matters”.
Our minds are disciplined, trained, and influenced. There’s a philosophy; if you don’t control your thoughts, someone else will.
I love the concept of influence. A full moon makes us romantic, or crazy, depending whether you’re out to dinner with your honey or taking a trip to the ER. Astrology takes this study even further, the influence of the planetary placements in the constellations at birth and the transits throughout life.
The idea of something “out there” will make a change “in here”, when there is no tangible physical proof. Though it could be said that the moon has a gravitational pull that may change blood flow, heart rate, or something else. But you would have to believe the science on that.
Believing.
Believing is the step after mind cleaning. To adapt to change we must do a clearing. Empty our heads and think of nothing but the breath. Yeah, right. What is wrong with thinking really hard on a subject, dissecting it into little pieces and coming to our own conclusions. After all, years and years of psychotherapy will only amount to this epiphany, eventually.
How often do we hear “stay tuned” (what does that even mean)? Wait for something really important coming up next. Most distressing is how the great “out there” secures our buy-in.
The great experiment.
We have been washed into believing that life will be better … if we take a specific action.
- If you eat right, you’ll be healthy.
- Smoke, you’ll get cancer.
- Take the shot and you will not get sick, and, even better, you won’t get other people sick. But you have to keep taking it every 3 months.
This happens all though life. Our parents, friends, teachers, and even the electronic influences from an unknown source spewing out a better way of life through our hand-held.
Voluntary manslaughter of self.
How did so many people willingly participate in the great experiment. No research, no consulting with the experts, no second opinions, just blind don’t ask questions and trust the science. It was fear.
So what is science?
After all, it’s smart to be so scientific. Science is flat earth, till we prove the earth is round. Science is proving the earth revolves around the sun, but if it goes against the authorities, it’s jail time. Science is listen to the experts, but not all of them.
Getting back to duality, if you believe in two sides to every story, there are opposing views. The science and the conscience.
